For HVAC companies
HVAC SEO that puts you in the map pack before the first heat wave
An HVAC company gets hired on the first heat wave, the first freeze, and the replacement bid in between. This is the monthly work that puts you on the screen for all three, and keeps you there.
Who this page is for
- Heating and cooling companies doing repair, replacement, and maintenance agreements
- Owners whose phone rings all day in July and goes quiet in October
- Companies losing searches to the manufacturer dealer locators
- Anyone paying a monthly SEO fee and unable to say what the work is
What the monthly work includes
Google Business Profile, managed
Category, services, hours, service area, and photos of real installs kept current every month. Name, address, and phone identical to the site. This is what puts you in the map pack on the first hot day.
A page per service and per town
Repair, replacement, maintenance, and the rest, each on its own page, in each town you want work in. Written with local detail rather than a town name swapped into a template.
Maintenance plan and seasonal pages
The maintenance plan page most HVAC sites lack, and the cooling and heating pages refreshed ahead of each season so Google has caught up before the weather turns.
Reviews asked for and answered
A review request the day the job closes and a reply to every review within a day. Count and recency both feed the map pack, and both are habits.
AI visibility tested monthly
The prompts a homeowner would ask, run across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, with the fixes that get your site cited. Ranking on Google and being named by an assistant are different problems.
A one-page monthly report
Calls, form fills, profile views, and the towns you rank in, in plain numbers. What moved, what did not, and what changes next month.

HVAC SEO is the monthly work that decides whether your company is on the screen when a homeowner in your service area searches for heating or cooling help. Not a report. Not a ranking tool. A short list of jobs done every month, most of which are undone in most shops we audit. This page is the list, and how to tell whether anyone is doing it for you.
Why SEO for HVAC companies has two seasons and a bid in between
An HVAC company gets hired at two moments a year. The first heat wave and the first freeze hit every home on the same day, and every phone rings at once. The homeowner picks whoever shows up first with a number and a yes. The rest of the year is the replacement bid: a family comparing three quotes on a new system. Three searches, three intents, and your site has to answer all of them.
| What they type | What they want | What has to be on the page |
|---|---|---|
| ac repair near me | Someone who answers today, close by | Your profile in the map pack, a repair page with a tappable number, a recent review |
| ac replacement cost | Price ranges, financing, what changes the number | A replacement page that answers the cost question, with photos of real installs |
| hvac maintenance plan | A reason to sign up before the season | A maintenance plan page with the visits and a way to enroll, live before the season starts |
Most HVAC sites have one Services page and nothing for the maintenance plan. All three visitors land on the same screen, and Google ranks it for none of them. The HVAC website design guide covers the page structure.
The three places an HVAC company shows up
Search your trade and a town and Google puts three things on one screen. Each is fed by something different.
- The map pack is fed by your Google Business Profile: the right category, your real service area, review count and recency, and how complete the listing is. Distance matters, and you cannot buy it.
- The organic results are fed by pages. A page that matches the service and the town and loads fast on a phone. No page, no match.
- AI answers are fed by both of the above plus plain answers an assistant can quote. In our test of roofing companies, most never had their own site linked in any answer. HVAC is no different.
What HVAC SEO services include, month by month
The same list in every market we work, with the HVAC seasons built into the calendar.
- Google Business Profile, kept current. The right category, every service listed, your true service area, photos of real installs added monthly. Name, address, and phone identical to the site.
- A page per service and a page per town. Repair, replacement, maintenance, heat pumps, each on its own page. Each town gets a real page with local jobs and a local review, not a swapped name. Multi-office shops get the grid per office.
- A maintenance plan page. The visits, the coverage, a way to enroll. The page most HVAC sites lack, and the one that smooths the slow months.
- Seasonal pages built ahead of the season. Cooling pages refreshed and promoted in spring, heating pages in late summer. Google needs weeks to catch up, so the work lands before the weather does.
- Reviews asked for and answered. A text with your review link the day the job closes, a reply to every review within a day. How to get more Google reviews has the wording.
- Citations made consistent. Every directory that lists you agrees on your name, address, and phone, including the manufacturer dealer pages.
- Content for homeowner questions. Why is my AC blowing warm air. Should I repair or replace. Short, plain answers on your site, the kind Google and the AI assistants quote.
- AI visibility tested monthly. The prompts a homeowner would ask, run across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, with the fixes that get your pages cited.
- A one-page report. Calls, form fills, profile views, the towns you rank in, and what changes next month.
Competing with the dealer locators
Every brand you install runs a dealer locator, and those pages sit in the results next to you, sometimes above you. They send the homeowner to a list of five dealers, not to you. You will not outrank a manufacturer for its own brand name. What you can own is what the locator cannot: your trade plus your town, the repair and replacement questions, and the maintenance plan. A homeowner who finds your town page and your reviews first calls you directly. Your listing on the locator stays, pointed at the right page on your site.
What an HVAC SEO company should not do
- Buy links. Bought link packages get sites penalized. Links come from real places: dealer pages, local sponsorships, suppliers.
- Promise a ranking. Google ranks on relevance, distance, and prominence, and nobody outside Google controls the result. We say what moved, not where you will rank by a date.
- Lock you in. The domain is registered to you. The site is yours. The profile lives in your Google account. Leave and we migrate the site to any host you pick, free.
How to tell if your vendor is doing the work
Open your Google Business Profile and look at the date of the last photo. Search your trade plus a town you want work in, from your phone. Ask for the pages added in the last 90 days, and when the maintenance plan page went live. If the answers are last winter, no, none, and never, you are paying for a report.
When the rebuild comes first
SEO for HVAC companies needs a site that can hold a page per service and per town and be edited the week a season turns. If the current site is a one-page template, a rented site the vendor controls, or a builder that cannot add pages, the work has nowhere to live. Then the HVAC website build comes first and the monthly work starts the day it goes live. Local SEO for contractors covers the part of this work that is the same across trades.
Monthly work is sold monthly. Scope and price are quoted in writing after a short call, before anything starts, and how much SEO costs for a contractor covers what the market charges at each band so you can read our quote against it. HVAC lead generation compares owning your rankings with buying calls, and the contractor SEO guide is the how-to. To see where you stand, run the free audit, or send a question.

Questions people ask
How long does HVAC SEO take to work?
Changes to a Google Business Profile, such as the correct category and new photos, can move map pack visibility within a few weeks. New service and town pages typically take two to four months to rank for the terms they target, depending on how competitive the town is. Reviews compound over time. A fair check-in is 90 days for early movement and six months for a clear before-and-after. Because HVAC demand is seasonal, the work for a season has to start at least a season ahead.
Does an HVAC company really need a page for every town?
Yes, for every town it wants work in. Google's map pack ranks partly on distance from the searcher to your listed address, so a company ranks best near its own shop and fades a few miles out. The way to rank in a town where you have no address is a real page on your site for that town, with local jobs, a local review, and the neighborhoods you cover, plus a Google Business Profile whose service area includes it. A list of towns in the footer does not do this. Multi-office companies need the grid built per office.
How much does HVAC SEO cost?
Across the market, SEO for a local heating and cooling company runs from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars a month. Surveys of SEO providers put the most common retainer between five hundred and a thousand dollars a month, and most local contractors land between five hundred and two thousand. Treat that as an estimate; the spread reflects how much work is in the scope. Our price is fixed. HVAC SEO is sold monthly at a fixed scope and a fixed price. We quote the number in writing after a short call, before anything starts, and the quoted number is the number you pay. What moves it is how many services and towns need their own page, whether a maintenance plan page and seasonal pages exist yet, and how much of the monthly work you want handled. If the existing site cannot hold a page per service and town, the build comes first and is quoted separately.
When should seasonal HVAC SEO work start?
Before the season, not during it. Google needs weeks to crawl, index, and rank a new or updated page, so cooling pages are refreshed and promoted in early spring and heating pages in late summer. A tune-up or maintenance plan page published the week of the first freeze will not rank until the rush is over. The monthly calendar is built around the two seasons so the pages are in place before the weather turns.
Can an HVAC company outrank the manufacturer dealer locators?
Not for the manufacturer's own brand name, and that is not the goal. The dealer locators rank on the strength of the manufacturer's domain and send the homeowner to a list of dealers rather than to one company. An HVAC company wins the searches the locator cannot: its trade plus its town, repair and replacement questions, and the maintenance plan. Those come from a Google Business Profile, a page per service and town, reviews, and plain answers to homeowner questions. The dealer listing stays and should point to the right page on your site.
