What is one more lead worth to you?

Put in your average job, your close rate and the leads you get a month. The ledger shows what one lead is worth, what a few more a month add up to, and what a missed call a week costs over a year.

How it adds up

01
One lead. Average job value multiplied by your close rate. A lead you do not book is still worth that much on average, because the next one might.
02
Extra leads. The extra leads a month multiplied by the value of one lead, then by twelve for the year. Gross profit applies your margin to that.
03
A missed call. One call a week that rings out or hits voicemail and never calls back, valued at the same rate, over fifty-two weeks.

The missed-call line is the one most owners have never put a number on. In our guide to speed to lead we cover what to do about it: who answers after hours, the text-back, and the form that promises when the call comes. The free 31-point checklist scores the rest of the site the same way.

Questions

Where do I get my close rate?

Count the leads you spoke to last month and the jobs that came from them. Ten conversations and three booked jobs is a 30 percent close rate. If you do not track it yet, most trades land between 25 and 50 percent for calls and lower for web forms, so start there and tighten it later.

Should I use revenue or profit?

Use the invoice value for the job and put your gross margin in the last field. The ledger shows both, so you can talk about the top line with a partner and the profit line with your accountant.

What counts as a lead?

Any call or form from someone who wants work done, before you qualify it. Count the tire kickers too; they are in your close rate already. Do not count spam, vendors or recruiters.

Does this tell me what a new website will produce?

No. It tells you what a lead is worth to you, so you can judge any marketing spend against it. Whether a site, a campaign or a listing adds five leads a month depends on your market, your reviews and how fast the phone is answered.
