Plumbing SEO Keywords: The Full List, by Job

Every plumbing keyword worth a page, grouped by the job it leads to, with real search volume bands and the one question that matters: which page on your site should own it.

Plumbing SEO keywords are the words a homeowner types when something is wrong with the water in their house. The list below is the ones that matter, grouped by the job they lead to, with how often Americans search each one and which page on your site should rank for it.

It is written for the owner or office manager doing this without an agency. You need this list, the services you sell, and the towns you drive to. Volumes are US monthly searches from Ahrefs, October 2026, rounded to bands.

How to read the list

  • The volume is national. Your town gets a slice, but the order of the jobs holds in a city of 40,000 the same as it does in Houston.
  • "Near me" is not a page. Google answers it with the map pack, from the Google Business Profile, for whoever is closest and best reviewed. The profile owns every near-me row.
  • Town pages own the local twin. Every keyword below has a version with your town on the end, too small for a tool to show, and those are the searches that ring your phone.
  • Low difficulty does not mean easy. Ahrefs scores most of these at zero because results are local and shift with the searcher. Your competition is the three companies in your town's map pack.

Page types: a service page covers one job, a town page covers one place you work, a guide is a longer cost or how-to article, and an FAQ is a question and answer on the service page it belongs to.

Emergency plumber keywords

The biggest numbers and the shortest decision: the homeowner calls the first company that answers. The profile wins the near-me rows. An emergency page with your after-hours number and the hours you really answer wins the rest.

Drain cleaning keywords

The cluster most sites bury inside a general services page. Note the size of hydro jetting: homeowners have learned the word, and a plumber with a jetter and no page for it is handing that search away.

Water heater repair and replacement keywords

The most valuable cluster: a planned replacement is a four-figure job decided on a website the night before the call. Repair and replacement want separate pages, because the searcher who types "repair" is hoping to spend less.

Tankless water heater keywords

The homeowner researches tankless for weeks, and the head term is mostly people comparing units. Pair the service page with a cost guide giving installed ranges from your own jobs.

Leak detection and slab leak keywords

The homeowner starts with the symptom, a high water bill or low pressure, so an FAQ that names the symptom and the next step gets the call first. Slab leaks are regional: a page if your market sits on slabs, nothing if it sits on basements.

Repiping keywords

Small numbers, large tickets, and almost nobody has a page for it. The homeowner was usually sent by an inspector or an insurer, so speak to galvanized and polybutylene pipe and the cost by house size.

Sewer line keywords

The biggest ticket in residential plumbing. Repair, replacement, trenchless, and camera inspection are different jobs in the homeowner's mind, and a page that lumps them together ranks for none of them.

sewer line repair50K to 100KSewer repair page

Gas line keywords

Gas work is licensed differently in most states and homeowners know it, so lead with the license. Repair searches are often emergencies: put the gas-smell instructions and the utility's number above the sales copy.

Fixtures, pumps, and remodel keywords

Smaller jobs, but they are how a household finds its plumber for the next twenty years. Two surprises: water softener installation outsearches sewer line replacement, and sump pumps are a real cluster where there are basements.

Commercial plumbing keywords

A different buyer: a property manager or restaurant operator who needs an invoice, a certificate of insurance, and a plumber who comes back. Keep commercial on its own page with its own phone path.

Cost and how-to keywords

Informational searches, from people not ready to call. They still matter: a cost guide from your own invoices earns links and AI citations, and the how-to searcher who fails at the fix calls whoever wrote the honest article.

How to turn this list into pages

  1. Cross off every job you do not sell. If you do not run a jetter, the hydro jetting rows are not yours.
  2. Give each remaining cluster one service page. The keyword in the title and main heading, symptoms in the homeowner's words, a price range from your own jobs, photos from that job, and the FAQ rows from its table.
  3. Build one town page per place you want more work in. Each links to every service page and names the neighborhoods, the housing stock and what goes wrong in it, and reviews from that town.
  4. Write the three cost guides. Water heater replacement, tankless, and sewer line replacement, with ranges from your invoices. They earn the links that lift every other page.
  5. Fix the profile before any of it. The near-me rows are the largest numbers here and the Google Business Profile decides them: categories, services, true hours, and a review request after every job.

That is the whole structure of a plumbing site that ranks: one page per job, one page per town, a few guides, and a profile that tells the truth. The plumber SEO service is that structure built and maintained month to month, and plumber website design is where the pages come from if the current site cannot hold them. Questions people ask

What are the best plumbing SEO keywords?

The highest-volume plumbing keywords in the US are "plumber near me", "water heater repair", "emergency plumber", "water heater replacement", "drain cleaning near me", and "sewer line repair", each searched tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of times a month per Ahrefs. The near-me versions are won by the Google Business Profile; the rest by a service page for that job and a town page for each place you work.

How many keywords should a plumbing website target?

One primary keyword per page, and one page per job you sell. A typical residential plumber ends up with eight to twelve service pages plus a town page for each place they want more work in. Related phrases go on that job's page as headings and FAQs.

Should a plumber make a page for "plumber near me"?

No. Google answers near-me searches with the map pack, pulled from Google Business Profiles ranked by distance, relevance, and reviews, so a page titled "plumber near me" has nothing to rank against. Put the effort into the profile: the right category, every service listed, real hours, real photos, and a review request after every job.

Are plumbing keywords hard to rank for?

Keyword tools show most plumbing keywords at very low difficulty because results are local and change with the searcher's location, so the national score means little. The real competition is the three companies in your town's map pack, and a plumber with a complete profile, steady reviews, and a page for each job usually outranks a larger company with one services page.
